Happy Scrappy Wednesday!

Hello! Today's project comes to us from Courtney Carpenter of Kansas! I was able to meet Courtney at last year's Convention. We even sat together on one leg of our plane trips home! Hi, Courtney!

I have been doing lots of scrapbooking lately! I just finished a scrapbook for a senior that graduated last week. I was also invited to do a 30-45 min. presentation on scrapbooking at a local retirement community. My husband jokingly asked if he needed to pay me to work on our family scrapbook b/c I do everyone else's but ours! :) He is a funny man. LOL I decided to go with a progressive scrapbook page to show the elders. I think breaking it down by 6x6, 8 1/2x11, and then 12x12 was easier for everyone to see the complete page done. Sometimes when you present a 12x12 page done it can be intimidating to new scappers. It was a fun time and I loved all the smiles, oohs, and ahhhs when I showcased my scrapbook of my little boys. Too cute. I had 7 ladies and 1 man. It was so neat to see a man there, and he was the only one that brought his album. Back in the day, he would fish a lot and make toy cars, airplanes and wood furniture. As you can see I had a great time! Here's the page I completed for them.

Paper: so saffron, certainly celery, bashful blue, saha
ra sand, sunshine garden designer paper, sweet slumber specialty designer paper Ink: bashful blue Accesories: sunshine garden stickers, dress up ribbon originals, and scallop edge punch.

Your pages are great, Courtney! You have just inspired me to get a page or 2 done in my kids' neglected "school years" scrapbooks. :)

Until next week...

Scrapbooking with Selene

Good Wednesday morning! Today's projects come from the enormously talented Selene Kempton.

I did a spring scrapfest for my customers with SAB products and lots and lots of punches.

My customers made 8 pages for $35.

It uses:
Stamps: polka dot punches.
Ink: Versamark, certainly celery, so saffron , bashful blue, sahara sand.
Paper certainly celery, so saffron , bashful blue, sahara sand, SAB DSP.
Accessories: Lots and lots of punches, and the SAB ribbon.

All pages were stamped with versamark and one stamp from the polka dot punches as a background. I used
www.pagemaps.com to help get started with sketches for some of the layouts. Becky Fleck is da bomb.

Thanks for sharing, Selene! I may just break out some of my half-done books and get some pages completed!

Until next week...
Happy Stampin'!

Scrappy Wednesday!

I am so behind on my scrapbooking. Let's see...my kiddos are 12 and 10 now (almost 11). That makes me 12 years behind! LOL
Stephanie's scrapbook page is fantastic! Look at all that hand-written journaling! I need to take some inspiration from her and get going on my scrapbooking!
Here's what she had to say about her page.
One of my favorite things about rub-ons is that they apply so easily to glossy surfaces like photos. Adding a quick image to a photo really adds a great finishing touch, and I think it mimics some of the fun affects that can be achieved with digital scrapbooking- but without the computer!
Demolition Derby Page...Stamps: Short Order Alphabet, Jumbo Outline Alphabet. Inks: Chocolate Chip Classic pad & Stampin' Write Journaler. Paper: Tangerine Tango, Chocolate Chip. Hawaiian Papaya Designer Series Paper. Accessories: Anchored Rub-ons, Scallop Edge Punch, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Chocolate Chip 1" Double-Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon.
Thanks for sharing your page, Stephanie!
Happy Stampin'!

Saturday with Sara

Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to Sara C. It's been great getting to know Sara and I'm blessed to have become friends with such a caring individual. Here's what she has to share about herself...

I am a passionate Stampin' Up! demonstrator who lives in South Windsor, Connecticut. I’m the proud mother of two beautiful girls, and the wife of one fabulous man. One of my favorite things to do is to recreate projects I’ve seen online, at seminars or in the stores - all from memory, without directions. I also like to work with color and different layouts and designs. "Never be afraid to think outside your comfort zone. And don't ever forget to find time for yourself and have fun doing what you love."

Here is a recent project I demonstrated at a workshop. This is a scrapbook page that started as a 6 x 6 page. The base is on Kiwi Kiss, and is accented with Chocolate Chip and Whisper White mats. The layered background image is stamped from the "Inspired by Nature" set in Kiwi Kiss an
d Whisper White. A chocolate chip ribbon with a slide from Hodgepodge Hardware is added for accent.

This 2nd image shows how you can adapt the smaller page to an 8 1/2 x 11 page, and then to a 12 x 12 page by utilizing coordinating colors and stamped images from the same stamp set.

I hosted a monthly scrapbook club this year that invited the club's participants to take a journey reflecting upon themselves. This installment is from September. Each of the sentiments are stamped from the "Smarty Pants" set. The flowers are from the new "Pocket Silhouettes" set (on sale this month!), and are stamp
ed on circle "cards" which open up to reveal "lessons learned in my lifetime."

If you want to check out more from Sara, feel free to visit her
blog. Thanks, Sara for sharing yourself and work with us. So glad we were able to get to know you a little more.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Alicia :)

I asked Brenda to tell us a little bit of what it was like to enter the contest. Here's what she had to say....

What was it like to enter the contest? Well, it was a lot of hard work! In January as soon as the new catalog came out I placed my order for all the supplies I would need. I got pretty busy with other things for a few months such as helping out at my sons' school, etc. and I didn't get to work on my projects as much as I would have liked. At the beginning of March I still had a lot to do and it was due by the end of the month. I was determined to get it done in time to not have to express mail it so I figured I'd need to get it done about two weeks prior to the deadline to get it there on time.I almost gave up. There were times when I'd look at all I had to do yet and think "Is it really worth it when I might not even win anyway?". I knew I was up against a whole lot of talented people but when I'd catch myself thinking those thoughts I'd remind myself that I would never know whether I could win or not if I didn't try and I knew I would have let myself down if I would have given up.Once my work was submitted all I could do then was wait. During the waiting time I would often doubt whether my projects really were good enough, but then I would sit down and look at the photos I took of all my projects and I would know in my heart that I did my very best and that was all I could do. My husband, wonderful guy that he is, told me from the start that he knew I would win. He's such an encouragement to me! He never doubted my abilities at all.The day finally came when the calls were to be made. I kept myself busy and tried not to think about it too much. Then the phone rang. I don't even remember what the sweet girl's name was that called. I forgot everything when she said she was calling from Stampin' Up! because I immediately knew why she was calling, even before she told me!!! I was sooo excited!!! It was one of the best feelings in the whole world! All my hard work had paid off. Of course the first person I told was my husband who happened to be at home at the time I got the call. Then I told everyone else who I thought would listen. LOL! For some time I had been questioning what God wanted me to do with the talents he had given me. Was this the way he wanted me to use them? To me this was a confirmation that I was where He wanted me to be and that is another reason it felt so good. It was like God was telling me that His blessing was on this and I was doing the right thing.I hope you all enjoy the projects I created and I hope that my story inspires some more of you to enter contests. Do the best work you can and give it your best shot. After all you never know if you don't try and the rewards are so worth it!

Thank you so much for sharing with us, Brenda. I'm so happy for you!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful, restful weekend.

Alicia :)

Le Jardin Brag Book

This elegant project is brought to us by Diva Courtney C. You can view Courtney's blog, Carpenter's Colorful Collections, here. She was recently "tagged" and has responded with some very funny little known facts about herself that are worth a visit.

Courtney's project is a photo brag book that uses five clear SU! envelopes as page inserts to display ten of your favorite photographs. This is a great stamp camp project and is easily adaptable to any theme or stampin' style. Just be careful, making these little books are addictive.

You can find a complete step-by-step tutorial by following this link posted by Corinne Somerville.

The recipe for Courtney's design is as follows:
Stamp Sets: Kind Thoughts and Baroque Motifs
Paper: Chocolate Chip, Kraft and LeJardin Designer Series Paper
Ink: Chocolate Chip, So Safron, Bashful Blue
Other: Chocolate Chip 5/8 inch Grosgrain Ribon, Circle Rhinestone Brads, 5 Clear Envelopes

To soften the feel of her design, Courtney sponged Chocolate Chip Classic Ink around the edges of the entire book. She used the Rock 'n' Roll technique to stamp the lovely little butterfly from the Kind Thoughts stamp set in Chocolate Chip ink on Kraft cardstock; and then she sponged Bashful Blue Classic Ink along the edges of the butterfly feathers. Click on any of the pictures to expand and see the detail close up.

Thank you for sharing with us Courtney. We look forward to seeing your next creation.

Super Aussie Savings!!

Hello from Sydney on a lovely sunny winter day!

I just love it when Stampin' Up!® give us great specials to share with our customers and ways to help them enjoy Stampin' Up!® as a business.

This month during July and through to 15th August you can purchase the starter kit at the discounted price of just $299 - this means you get over $550 value in the kit for a small investment.

I joined Stampin' Up!® in August 2006 and at the time thought well the kit is good value in itself so it wouldnt matter if nothing eventuated with the business.

Now I have been with Party Plan companies before and it ended up costing me money instead of giving me a little extra to spend so was a little unsure how well Stampin' Up!® would go for me.

How wrong was I??

Stampin' Up!® has done nothing but bless me with my own wonderful team of ladies who also have blessed me with friendship and support. I have grown in myself through doing demonstrations and my stamping has also improved and I no longer stress about sharing this wonderful company and all it has to offer with people I meet.

I was asked back in November 2007 to do a workshop wow at the Regional Training day in Sydney. Now after picking myself up off the floor I agreed I would and I dont think I have ever been so nervous in my whole life - not even when I got married. Now if you told me two years ago that I'd be up on stage in front of some 200 other demonstrators with me showing them a technique I would have laughed till I cried but I will say its been one of the best things I've ever done. It was such an awesome experience.

I have also had the awesome pleasure to meet Shelli Gardner not once but twice at the two conventions held here in Australia.

This photo here was taken at the awards dinner where I received a recruiting award.

The whole experience with Stampin' Up!® and with all it has brought into my life has been more than I could have ever dreamt! That also includes meeting all the lovely demonstrators who are part of the Diva's group!

Please dont hesitate to contact me or any of the other Aussie Diva's if you would like more information on joining this wonderful company.

Have a blessed day ..... Leonie

Tea Time

It is with great pleasure that I am able to share some creations from a very special person. Michelle is such an amazing and talented person and I admire her so much. She has definitely been an inspiration in my life. I am so blessed to be able to call her one of my closest friends. Although I enjoy being a demonstrator, I enjoy the friendships I have made through Stampin' Up! much more. Michelle is one person I know I will be friends with for the rest of my life. Thank you, Michelle, for your friendship and support. I hope you realize how much it means to me. Hugs!!

Hi! My name is Michelle and I live in Minnesota but am originally from Canada. I moved to the States to be with my husband. I have been interested in stamping since I was a child. When I learned about Stampin’ Up!, I jumped at the chance to be a demonstrator. I have been a demonstrator for 3 years and I love every minute of it. I love to create projects that will put a smile on someone’s face and I enjoy teaching others how to do the same. I find a lot of inspiration and many techniques on a variety of crafting web sites and personal blogs. Since I received so much valuable help on-line, I decided to start a blog of my own in order to hopefully help others in return. View my blog at
http://mhoffman-atimetostamp.blogspot.com/ If there is a particular technique or project you would like to see, please ask me!

I have been a member of UDI for about 2 years now. I enjoy being part of a group of stampers who are positive and have great ideas and are willing to help one another out. I am the Spiritual Sunday coordinator, Baby Closet coordinator, and Tutorial coordinator for the group. It keeps me busy but I very much enjoy it.

Now, on to the projects...

This first project is a coaster box. I bought the chipboard coasters online at http://www.eclecticpaperie.com/. I adhered “Afternoon Tea” Designer Series Paper from the Occasions mini catalog onto both sides of 5 coasters. I applied a thin coat of ModPodge overtop of the paper to protect it from moisture and oils. Using the crop-a-dile tool, I punched five holes along two sides of 4 coasters, leaving the 5th coaster intact. The 5th coaster is for the bottom of the box and does not require holes in it. Once I had punched all the holes, I took an 18” length of ribbon and laced it through the holes of 2 coasters lying side by side. I repeated this step until all 4 coasters were laced together, then using a strong adhesive, I glued the 5th coaster to the bottom of each of the 4 coasters, creating the completed box. If you’d like to see a tutorial on how to create a coaster box, click on this link for the tutorial posted on Splitcoast Stampers by Taylor VanBruggen.

To create the paper flowers, I followed Sharon Field’s directions on her blog,
Created By U. For the center flower, I folded a 1 1/4” circle not quite in half. Then I took one end of the folded circle, and rolled it loosely to get the “bud” look. I snipped off a tiny portion of the bottom of the bud to make it flatter so it would lay straighter when I glued it to the rest of the flower. I used a 1 1/4” circle punch to create the leaves by punching a complete circle and then punching only a portion of the original circle to get an oval type shape for the leaf. I used my paper snips to cut slits on both sides of the leaves to create more interest and dimension.

Paper: Afternoon Tea DSP, Ginger Blossom DSP, Wild Wasabi CS
Accessories: Chipboard coasters, ModPodge, glue dots, Crystal Effects, foam brush, bone folder, crop-a-dile, 1 1/4” circle punch, paper trimmer, scissors, double stitched ribbon- River Rock

This next project is a mini accordion album we created in my last stamp class. The butterfly is two dimensional but it didn’t show up very well in this picture.
To create this 9 page album, I used one 12 x 12 sheet of card stock. Cut a line along the length of the paper at 3 3/4”, 7 1/2” and 11 1/4”. Discard the left over narrow strip. Turn your strip horizontally and score at 3 3/4”, 7 1/2” and 11 1/4”. Score the other two strips identical to the first. Take one of the strips, and cut off the 3/4” portion at the bottom and discard it. Do not cut off this portion on the other two strips. Apply adhesive to the two 3/4” portions. Attach one strip at the 3/4” portion to the first square on the second strip. Then attach the second strip at the 3/4” portion to the first square on the third strip. Fold all 9 squares accordion style on the score lines. You now have the base for your album!

For the front cover, I cut a piece of Groovy Guava 3 1/2” x 3 1/2”, then a piece of Afternoon Tea DSP 3 1/4” x 3 1/4”. I stamped the butterfly from Garden Whimsy twice, and cut both out. I attached one butterfly cut out to the CS layers, using dimensionals. I made a score line in the middle of my second butterfly, folded the left side, then adhered the right side to the first butterfly. To get a 3-D effect, you will want to cut out a total of 3 butterflies and attach them accordingly. Then, I applied Crystal Effects randomly on the top butterfly, creating raised dots for dimension.

For the inside pages, each layer of CS is 3 1/2” x 3 1/2”. The rest is self explanatory, but if you have any questions, please post your questions in the comment area of this post.

Enjoy creating either of these two projects, or both! Happy stampin’ and creatin’!

Stamp set: Garden Whimsy, Warm Words, It’s All Good
Paper: Afternoon Tea Designer Series Paper, Whisper White 12 x 12’, Groovy Guava, Wild Wasabi, Chocolate Chip,
Whisper White 8.5 x 11” CS
Ink: Groovy Guava, Close to Cocoa, Wild Wasabi Classic Ink
Accessories: Photo corner punch, 1/8”, 1 1/4”, 1 3/4” circle punches, scallop circle punch, tag corner punch, stampin’ dimensionals, Crystal Effects, SNAIL adhesive, scissors, sticky strip, paper cutter, double stitched ribbon- Wild Wasabi, Groovy Guava, button, mini envelope template

Thank you for sharing your works of art with us, Michelle.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Tuesday Treat

Today’s featured stamper is Micki, a woman whom I have had the pleasure to meet and get to know. She is a very talented stamper, but like many, does not give herself enough credit. The following is a brief bio written by Micki herself as well as some fantastic projects with supply lists.

"Hi, let me introduce myself. My name is Micki and I am a wife to a wonderful husband, a mother to an awesome daughter and son-in-law, a grandmother to the worlds most adorable two granddaughters (I know – I’m being biased, lol), and a craft-a-holic. I was born and raised in Bad Hersfeld, Germany and immigrated to Leavenworth, Kansas 31 years ago. Several years ago, we bought an old Victorian house in Wathena, Kansas which is west of St. Joseph, Missouri, so we could be closer to the kids.

I have always dabbled in some kind of craft; crochet & knitting, quilting, sewing, folk art stuff, one-stroke painting and yes, had even tried rubberstamping about 15 years ago. Being German and having been raised in Germany, arts & crafts are taught early on in school. I distinctly remember in 3rd grade having to knit a sweater and it still brings a chuckle out of me as I had cheated and had my ‘Oma’ knit it for me.

So as I had mentioned, I tried rubberstamping before but it did not catch my interest. Back then it was too labor intensive in my opinion. Years later, a friend invited me to a Stampin’ Up! Workshop and I truly responded with “Ugh, I tried stamping and I am not interested. And scrapbooking – no thanks”. Honest to goodness, that was my answer. Kari just said to come, it’ll be fun, a night away for you and you don’t have to buy a thing. Well….. I’m sure you can imagine how the rest of the story goes. The demonstrator showed 3 different cards, which took less than 10 minutes each and a major light bulb went off in my head…. As for scrapbooking, having grandchildren changed my mind really quick.

I have been a demonstrator now for close to 3 years and joined Utah Divas International shortly after starting my demoship. Through UDI, I have learned so much and am still learning which is so much fun. I have met an amazing community of crafters that are always there to offer creative feedback, encouragement and just inspire me to step outside of my comfort zone and just create! Customers are not customers but have become my friends and crafting buddies. When I have a workshop, it’s more like a creative forum and it is so much fun to absorb all that creativity. Not to mention the laughs we share.

That is my story. To sum it up- Creative Stress Relief. My stamping & scrapbooking allows me to forget about the daily challenges of work, stress and general every day trials & tribulations and helps me to unwind."

A little about the 12x12 scrapbook page created here. Scrapbooking is relatively hard for me because I tend to ‘over analyze’ and instead of letting it be, I alter a page a gadzillion times before going back to the original layout. Sound familiar? This page was intended to be a Christmas present…. (I know :)) for a close friend who lives in Oklahoma and I realized I better just ‘do it’ so she can have it by Easter. It is my first time using Rub Ons and I absolutely fell in love with them, which is why no stamps were used. I had too much fun with the Rub-Ons. I also used Stampin’ Up!’s On Board Chipboard, colored it with the Chocolate Chip re-inker. The colors were randomly chosen since they appealed to me and seemed to go better with the Sepia tone of the photo.

Framed!

Sorry to be running a bit behind schedule today and I hope I didnt stress too many of my Diva's out! Its so good to be part of the Diva's as I had one check in on me to make sure I was ok so that was nice.

Its a gorgeous sunny day here in Sydney Australia and I do hope that where you are the sun is warming your back too!

Today it is my pleasure to introduce to you our Diva, Jaynell Giliberti from Pennsylvania.

This is what Jaynell says about Stampin' Up! and Utah Diva's International ...

The very first time I picked up and used a SU Stamp was in Feb of 2002, after my youngest was born. I said I would never be a demonstrator because I hate pushy sales. But on Oct 4, 2002 I decided to be a demonstrator.. not for the sales aspect, but for my discount mostly and secondly because I would rather consider myself as a teacher verses a sales person.

I joined UDI in January 20
05 and was invited by Max herself when we ran into each other on the Stampin Discuss. UDI is sooooo supportive and such a loving group.... so without UDI, there is NO Stampin Up!. They just go hand in hand :)

Stampin has been the one creative outlet I could use and feel good about it. To this day, my youngest is the biggest admirer of my work.. she will just sit down and look through the scrapbook pages that I actually accomplished and just stare at them... just loving the books. Of all the books we have in the house, she loves to browse my scrapbook pages the most.

I originally started only doing cards.. then got into gift items.. I was terrified to do scrapbooking thinking it was harder than it really is. But, one day I sat down and realized how similar a card and scrapbook page is similar and only difference is one is bigger and put on the front of one page verses creased and opened... read then thrown away. The scrapbook pages are kept and valued more.
So to this day.. I remain a demonstrator for ideas and discounts so I may catch up on my scrapbooking. I have slowed down quite a bit as a demonstrator since I started but one thing has not changed - I have tons of pictures that need a home on a page that I can create with all the Stampin Up! supplies I have.
Jaynell created this lovely framed Family using the Simply Scrappin 'At Home' kit. These kits are such good value with 18 sheets of coordinating products including patterned papers, cardstock and self-adhesive diecuts. She has combined this kit with stamps, twill and brads to enhance her finished frame.

This kit is one of the kits that will be retiring here in Australia at the end of March so if you would like one you had better email your friendly Australian demonstrator quickly!

I think I need one of these kits myself to do something similar to Jaynell's gorgeous frame!
